American Running Association
<!--StartFragment-->
The American Running Association was founded in 1968 by Lt. Gen. Richard L. Bohannon, M.D., former Surgeon General of the U.S. Air Force and advocate for improving health—both mental and physical—through running. Originally called the National Jogging Association, the association changed its name in 1981 to the American Running and Fitness Association, and again in 1999 to the American Running Association (ARA).
